Khabir Southwick

Integrative Ayurveda Doctor

Professional Information
Khabir Southwick is a Traditional Naturopath, Registered Integrative Ayurveda Doctor (IAD), Registered Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP), Registered Ayurvedic Herbal Pharmacist (AHP), and a Registered Professional Ayurvedic Continuing Education (PACE) Provider.
His work spans Ayurveda, Western herbalism, and whole-food nutrition, with a strong emphasis on practical application rather than theory. Across more than 27 years, he has worked with thousands of individuals, refining his approach through observation, repetition, long-term follow-up, and real-world outcomes.
Khabir Southwick is not a medical doctor or physician. His work is educational in nature and based on traditional systems of health, including Ayurveda and herbal medicine. He does not diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions, and his services do not replace medical care from a licensed healthcare provider.

Private Practice & Teaching

Building on this foundation, Khabir maintained a full-time private practice in Ojai, California, from 2008 to 2023, working with individuals and families seeking guidance related to ongoing health-related patterns.  Over these fifteen years, he completed thousands of one-on-one consultations, developing extensive real-world experience applying traditional Ayurvedic approaches to complex, ongoing situations.

Clients sought his work for practical support for virtually every imaginable health concern—often after years of trying conventional or fragmented approaches. His work involved in-person Ayurvedic assessments, traditional herbal formulas, Ayurvedic dietary guidance, and long-term follow-up.

Alongside private practice, Khabir delivered hundreds of public talks and classes, particularly during the latter half of this period—at times presenting two to three programs per week. He was regularly invited to speak at Whole Foods Market (Santa Barbara and later Oxnard), Rainbow Bridge Health Food Store, and Lassens Natural Foods & Vitamins, among other respected locations throughout Southern California.

Herb Man Teas

In 2023, Herb Man Teas was formed, making Khabir’s herbal products available to the public for the first time through online sales. The product line has since expanded to over 250 items, offered through Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and HerbManTeas.shop.

His herbal teas have become the most widely purchased offerings, while his traditional Ayurvedic-style formulas remain the most distinct. As the brand continued to grow, his son began taking over management of Herb Man Teas, allowing Khabir to remain focused on consulting work and international teaching and travel, rather than day-to-day business operations.

Ayurvedic Training in India

After early study in Western herbalism and nutrition, Khabir first traveled to India in 1982, drawn to learn Ayurveda in its original setting. What followed was decades of living in and returning to India, learning directly from teachers in both North and South India through the traditional Guru–Shishya Parampara—an apprentice-based system rooted in close observation, repetition, and lived experience.

In North India, his training focused on the classical use of churnas (herbal powders), traditional formulations, bhasmas, and pulse assessment. In South India, particularly in Kerala, his work expanded into authentic Abhyanga (oil massage), Panchakarma, and the traditional preparation and use of herbal ghees (ghritas), medicated oils (tailams), and herbal wines (arishtas).

Prior to 2020, Khabir conducted consultations in India, including in Mumbai, under the guidance of his teacher, Dr. Vikram Chauhan, and at times worked with up to 20 clients a day.

By 2016, he was teaching Ayurveda in India, with Indian students attending his classes. Many of his long-term clients remain Indian to this day. Khabir says the true masters are in India, and that his role has always been that of a student carrying forward what was given through direct transmission.

International Consulting & Teaching

After years of work in the U.S. and India, Khabir entered a period of extensive international travel, direct engagement, and high-volume consulting. In 2016, he began touring Morocco, becoming the first practitioner to travel the country speaking publicly and meeting privately with clients about Ayurveda. He visited Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Agadir, returning twice a year and often conducting up to ten consultations a day.

By 2018, his work increasingly focused on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he was regularly invited to teach, speak, and consult at multiple venues. During some visits, he presented nightly talks for a full week, moving between locations.

By 2019, Khabir was consulting and teaching across Morocco, the UAE, and India within the same extended trip.

Khabir Today

At 63, Khabir is not slowing down—he is refining his life’s work into a modern, high-precision online consulting platform designed for serious people who want real results. Built on decades of hands-on experience, his vision is to combine timeless traditional insight with today’s technology—creating a system with greater clarity, continuity, and real-world follow-through.

As this platform evolves, AI-supported tools will be used to improve organization and personalization—amplifying Khabir’s skill, sharpening his ability to individualize guidance, and taking health consulting to a new level.
